Health Insurance

In order to live and study in Berlin, students are required to be in possession of proper health insurance. There are 5 possible options:

  • Most students will be insured at student rates (55 Euros/ month) with a public German insurance carrier. Policies will be signed during orientation.
  • Students from European Union countries can bring the E128 form from their insurance carrier at home and have it recognized at any German public insurer.
  • Students from countries that have entered into social security agreements with Germany (e.g. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Turkey, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Tunisia, Hungary) can bring the AT11 form from their insurance carrier at home.
  • Students with private medical insurance may apply for a proof of exemption or obtain compulsory insurance at the German health insurance company of their choice.

Housing

Berlin is one of the cheapest major European cities to live in. There is plenty of housing suitable for all budgets. However, in order to find the right place for yourself, you need to know the city a bit and you need time to look. Therefore, we offer students from outside Berlin the option of student housing in one of the complexes run by the undefinedStudentenwerk.

If you whish, the program will set you up in student housing: Single occupancy bedrooms, common bathroom and kitchen. But there are a few strings attached:

  • No choice of housing complex or room (will be assigned by Studentenwerk)
  • Set room rental rates between 180 and 220 Euros
  • Minimum stay of 3 months

Upon your arrival, you will need to pay cash for the first month´s rent as well as a deposit of one month´s rent plus 10 Euros. You need to bring your own bedding and kitchen equipment (Usually you can purchase a starter kit for 50 Euros (bedding) and 35 Euros (kitchen) at your housing complex).
